I fell in love with Cloche hats when I saw a photo of Vilma Banky (available online here). I wanted to translate her style into a hat wearable by females of any age, even by our little ones.
The hat is worked top-down with a short-row shaped brim, featuring ribbing to ensure a close fit.

26sts/33rws at 4” in stockinette stitch on US 2.5 / 3.0mm needles

Materials
- Lang Yarns Silk Dream [50% silk / 50% Merino wool, 100yd / 91m per 50g skein]; colors: pale pink #09 / light blue #20 (MC), white #01 / dark blue #35 (CC); 1 (2, 2, 2) skeins (MC), 1 (1,1,1) skeins (CC). Note: just a small partial of the CC skein is used.
- US 2.5 / 3.0mm double point needles (or a long circular of the same size if you prefer magic loop)
- Stitch markers (6 in total, 5 of one kind, one of another to mark beginning of round)
- Tapestry needle
Directions

Crown
Using MC, provisional CO 6 st. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist.
Rnd 1: k6, pm. This marker indicates the beginning of the round.
Rnd 2: kfb 6 times. 12 st.
Rnd 3: kfb 12 times. 24 st.
Rnd 4: knit.
Rnd 5: *pm, kfb, k3 * 6 times. 30 st.
Rnd 6: knit.
Rnd 7: *kfb, k until next marker * 6 times. (36 st)
Rnd 8: knit.
Repeat rnds 7 and 8 12 (14, 15, 17) more times. 108 (120, 126, 138) st.
Body
Work 16 (18, 19, 20) rows in stockinette st.
Using CC, work 8 (9,9,10) rows in reverse rib (*ktbl, p * around).
Change back to MC and knit one rnd.
Brim
*kfb, k5 * around. (You might end up having less than 5 stitches left after the last kfb.)
Knit 1 (1, 2, 2) rows.
Shaping
K 95 (105, 110, 121), w&t.
P 81 (90, 95, 104), w&t.
K 74 (83, 87, 95), w&t.
P 68 (75, 79, 86), w&t.
K 61 (68, 71, 78), w&t.
P 54 (60, 63, 69), w&t.
Knit 1 rnd, then work 3 (3,4,4) rows in seed st.
Bind off loosely.
Finishing
Remove waste yarn from the provisional CO on the top of the hat and put the stitches onto your needles. Pull working yarn through all 6 st (pull tightly to close the top). Weave in ends and block.
