Lido West Wrap

by Stephanie J Pajonas

Lido West Wrap

Lido West is a small stretch of beach located in the township of Hempstead on Long Island. During the summer, we would try to make it to Lido Beach at least once per week, sunning ourselves until we were bleary eyed and starving for Mediterranean food and cold beers. Having a light wrap to cover up with on the long ride home was essential. It does get cold when the sun goes down, even in the middle of summer in New York. This shawl is inspired by a stitch pattern that I came across in a 1960s Vogue Knitting magazine. It was used for a cardigan, but I modified it to fit in between a simple eyelet border on two ends and garter stitch on the edge. Made from a light rayon metallic yarn, the wrap is warm enough to keep sun-soaked shoulders from getting too chilly and slinky enough to wear to the bar after a hard day at the beach

Finishing

Weave in ends. Wet block and pin out to dry. Because of the slipperiness of this yarn, you may need to split yarn and weave ends in in opposite directions (see notes on using fray check.)

Lido West Wrap

Other Notes

Use fray check on ends on wrong side to help keep the ends in place.

Markers can be placed around the lace columns (before and after the K6) in the Main Lace Panel to help keep your place. Be aware that the markers can tend to move because of the YOs that start or end the lace columns.
